Containers are generally built to the specification laid down by the International Standards Organisation.
The sizes of containers in most frequent use have an exterior dimension of 20ft length x 7ft 9ins wide x 8ft 6 ins high or 40 ft, with same height and width. However it is slowly becoming more common to see containers that are 9ft 6ins high.
